Help us save an ex-race horse
All Pages

Ex- race horses need to be re-trained or fully schooled, before they can be ridden by anyone, other than professional jockeys. Reason is because other than their jockeys and trainers, race horses have little or NO! contact with other humans. It is very dangerous for a person who has no knowledge of horses, to approach, or be near them.  This is why race horses need to be re-trained, in order to be comfortable with the general public.

Below is a video showing an ex-race horse, re-trained for general purpose riding. Re-trained horses are cool and calm, when approached by anyone.  Anyone, even children! can ride such horses safely. This does not mean that it is okay for anyone to approach a horse without the presence of its trainer or care giver (someone it recognises). The feeling of riding an ex-race horse cannot be described, but knowing that this horse was saved from the butchers and is now well taken care off! is overwhelming.

All around the world, hundreds of race horses are put to sleep daily, for losing races; and thousands more are bred to replace them. A vicious and cruel cycle if you ask me.  We might not be able to save race horses all over the world! because of the numbers game, but! saving a few would be better than nothing.
